I can't sleep at all. Normally if we put on a movie I can fall asleep pretty quick, especially if it's a movie I've seen a ton, which is why last night when I couldn't sleep I put on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but then I just ended up watching that. Eventually I fell asleep much later, laying on the floor. Tonight I watched all of Casino Royale, which is excellent by the way, read the Onion and Achewood for a while, updated our netflix queue, looked at top 100 lists for books and movies, and then looked at some old pictures, some of which are above. As for the top 100 books list only one of them, the BBC list, had my favorite book(s) Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I think I just decided now that that's(those) is(are) my favorite, a close second would be the Harry Potter series and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, all books that I could read over and over and over again, no problem. Oh that's a good TravelingPyles survey Top Three Books(series). Let's hear them people!
Now I'm going to put on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and I usually fall asleep just as Harry and Dudley are running through the field, so we'll see what happens tonight. I'm on the floor tonight as well. I like really hard surfaces (part of the reason I like camping so much) and I sleep slightly better on the floor. Not always though. More swimming planned for tomorrow, than possibly the Library, and I have my class as well. Troy and Christie just moved into their new house, which has a pool with a diving board, which Ella absolutely loves, she would go jump off of it and then swim to me, and then get out a do it again. Still doesn't bother to take a breath though. alright, it's 4:00 and I'm rambling, so I'm going to bed.

Insomnia is the worst!
As for books...these probably change on a yearly basis and the order is subject to change on a daily basis, depending on mood and what else I am reading:
1. Little Women
2. The Kite Runner
3. Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice - I go back and forth
Close runners up:
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Moonstone
Pillars of the Earth
The Power of One (the movie from this one is also excellent, which is rare - Nate, you'd love the music, I bet)
A Christmas Carol
Top 3 is way too hard! Random list of 10 books you love is much easier.
Ooo, I just went to the BBC list! I forgot about the Secret Garden!
I also loved Anna Karenina and The Woman in White.
I like this survey!
1. The Godfather
2. 87th precinct (series)
3. karl pilkington's happy slapped by a jellyfish
these are also 3 of the most recent books i have read/reread. Cant think too far back anymore
1. To Kill a Mockingbird
2. The 7th Harry Potter (the only book I've ever felt the need to hug)
You know what? That's the end of my list.
I think I could list favorite authors easily, but not books.
Some of my favorites are:
Pride and Prejudice
Catcher in the Rye
All the Harry Potter books
Assassination Vacation
I've also read all the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency books.
I too have read books. Life on the Mississippi ,...Tom sawyer' Penrod, lots of alexander McCall smith HP yes, me too.Mary, power of one IS a great book!Anything about zombie monkeys and the history of spacing spelling ann capitalization by Ima Doofus oh yeah all Calvin and hobbes books Dad
We just got internet back, fun survey!
1. Little Women
2. Gone with the Wind
3. Pride and Prejudice
I like super early Chick lit, and super agree with Mary, but I've never read The Kite Runner
My non list books are Harry Potters, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Phantom Tollbooth, Secret Garden, and my paper back Clara Barton book that I think I read more times than I've ever read any book in my life.
I can't believe I forgot Cold Comfort Farm and Wuthering Heights! More great girl books. There is a class I never got to take at the U of I dedicated to the study of Chick Lit from Elizabeth Bennet to Bridget Jones. It's ok, I've read it all anyway.
The Kite Runner is awesome. I highly recommend it.
Uncle Stu - do I know of Wallace Stegner from you? I just picked up my first of his - I can't remember the title of course...but I can see it on my table...
I have a memory of learning about him in Lib'ville - I thought from you - years ago.
Other books that should be on some list somewhere, for various reasons:
Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret (that's one of Dad's and Mum's favorites, too)
Nancy Drew books (before the niece took over writing them)
On The Road
Pistachio Prescription (sp)
The Death of Ivan Ilyich
War and Peace
good idea Spud- comics should totally count. I therefore add the humongous compilation of New Yorker cartoons as my third book. I read through that thing so many times growing up.
I don't know if my dad told you about Wallace Stegner, but I know he's one of his favorite authors, so it's highly likely. I've tried so many times to read "All the Little Live Things" but I can never get past the first three pages.
I know it will be controversial, but if comics count, I add all Archie comics, I could read those all day.
Talked to Auntie - it WAS her and Spud. I am reading Crossing To Safety by Stegner. Try that one, Katie - I think you might like it.
My dad totally got me into Stegner too, all of the people at the press read him, and passed it on. I owe so much of my literary and musical tastes to the press it's ridiculous. They are always recommending great stuff to read and listen to. And now I've got a ton of new stuff to read from all of you.
wallace stegner introduced me to bernard devoto whose histories of america are sensational and who edited the works of mark twain and the diaries of lewis and clark then it turns out howard had all his books.
(The above was typed by Stuart from his hospital bed.)
Hi Nate!! Man all the books suggested, I mean all have been great. I think I have read them all, ummm except bernard de voto. He just lives in your dad's fantasies. but here are some writers i love. Mystery/ Dick Francis. Action/Lee Child. Fabulous oddball stuff set in Kentucky or the southwest or Africa/Barbara Kingsolver. Also crazy Annie Proulx. Love Auntie
Am on my second Stegner in a week - Angle of Repose. It is really, really good.
